007 – Quantum of Solace
£0.00

James Bond used to take his Martinis shaken, not stirred. Since Daniel Craig took on the role of the world's greatest secret agent, we're not entirely sure he isn't a little of both. So, with the release of Quantum of Solace, it's time to step into the shoes of a more grizzled Bond. As well as delving into the action of Quantum of Solace, the game picks up Casino Royale, too. It's the first next-gen Bond game, why not go big? Treyarch, the developer behind Call of Duty: World at War, has taken charge of development. It has used the Call of Duty 4 game engine - a fine place to start. There's a key difference, however. The game will dip in and out of the first-person viewpoint. When you're in the thick of it and bullets are whizzing past your ears, you'll be able to dip into first-person mode, but you'll have a third-person point of view at your disposal so you won't have to miss out on Daniel Craig's rugged good looks. Following the two films, the action swings from stealthy, secret agent-type work to all-out, balls-to-the-wall blockbuster combat. You'll get to indulge in that with your mates, too, thanks to the option for up to 12 players to go head-to-head online. Who says being the world's greatest secret agent has to be a solo activity?

Good afternoon, James. We hate to spoil your return with more bad news, but we have just received word that an MI-6 agent was killed in action before delivering a report from the Russian Atomic Energy Department. Our friend Sir Robert King purchased this report with the assumption that it would contain information on the attackers of his oil pipeline in Kazakhstan. Right now banker Lachaise has the money in Spain, so your mission is to meet him, find out who killed our agent, and return the money to King. Based on the 1999 movie starring Pierce Brosnan as renowned secret agent James Bond, The World Is Not Enough is a first-person shooter that spans 14 levels, each with multiple objectives. Using an array of special gadgets and weapons, you must thwart a terrorist attack on MI-6 headquarters, free hostages held inside an underground train station, and complete various other goals as you try to find and confront the man or woman behind all of this mayhem. As you make your way through hallways, corridors and outdoor environments, you'll have to keep an eye on your health meter, which will gradually deplete with every hit you take from enemy soldiers. Picking up body armor will help you sustain more damage, but if your health meter falls to zero, the game is over. Certain underwater missions also feature an oxygen meter that will diminish the longer you stay submerged; return to the surface before it disappears or you'll permanently end your career. At your disposal are the following 13 gadgets: bomb disposal kit, digital camera, covert modem, cutting laser watch, data scrambler, fingerprint scanner, flash bang gun, grapple hook watch, keypad decryptor, night vision glasses, phone tap, safe cracker and x-ray glasses. Using these gadgets is a matter of moving up to a specific object, selecting the gadget from your inventory, then pressing a button to activate it. The World is Not Enough also features multiplayer support for up to four people. Players can choose their character, an environment to play in, the type of weapons featured, and one of the following scenarios: Arena (every man for himself), Team Arena, Capture the Flag, Capture the Briefcase, King of the Hill, Team King of the Hill, Uplink, Last Agent Standing (each character has a limited number of lives), and Golden Gun (find all three pieces of the gun and eliminate all other players with it). Manufacturer's description: Bond Is Back Experience the intensity of being the world's top secret agent. Equipped with a full aresenal of Q-Lab gadgets and weaponry, you must be suave and resourceful as you carry out action-packed missions based on the blockbuster movie. Are you cool under pressure? Actua Soccer 2 (PS1)
£3.00£5.50

Actua Soccer is a football video game series that was developed by Gremlin Interactive as part of their Actua Sports series, and was the first football game to use full 3D graphics. The series comprises four titles released from 1995 to 1999, not including the official video game of the Euro 96 tournament, which was also published by Gremlin and based on the Actua Soccer game engine. Barry Davies provided in-game commentary for all games in the series. The first title's biggest claim to fame was its full 3D graphics engine, used for the first time in a football game, although other games had used a 3D field, players were commonly still 2D sprites but in Actua Soccer players were polygonal. The game was developed with close ties to a local football club Sheffield Wednesday their players provided hints to the programmers and three players Chris Woods, Graham Hyde and Andy Sinton also served as motion capture models Actua soccer featureed only national teams, with squads of 22 players from each of 44 national sides, However a follow up version with English Premier League teams named Actua Soccer: Club Edition was released in 1996 using 20 players from the 20 Premier League teams from 1996/97. The Actual Soccer match engine was also used to display matches in Premier Manager 64. Following the success of the first Actua Soccer game, a sequel was likely. The game is fast-paced with more of an action than simulation feel, and an emphasis on ground play rather than heading. A young Michael Owen provides motion capture to produce realistic player motions and actions - the different builds and styles of players are taken into account. 64 top international teams are featured, as are 24 distinct stadiums, with weather conditions having both visible and noticeable playing effects. This was one of the first games to feature 2-man commentary, with former England captain Trevor Brooking joining Barry Davies in the analytical role. Manufacturer's description: Actua Soccer 2 features Alan Shearer, the England soccer captain, who picks his All Star XI to pit your side against. Unique motion capture sequences are provided by Liverpool striker, Michael Owen featuring live interactive commentary from Barry Davies and Trevor Brooking, Actua Soccer 2 is as close to real soccer action as you will get.

Adidas Power Soccer International ’97 (Sony PlayStation 1, 1997)
£3.50

This sequel to the early PlayStation bestseller adidas Power Soccer expands on the number of available leagues (from 3 to 5, with Spain and Italy adding to the English, French and German leagues) and a 'Top 20' division with top European Clubs, as well as 56 national teams. The usual game modes and options in the genre make a presence here, being possible to play cups, tournaments or leagues. As with the previous game, the same fast-paced gameplay remains, while the regular mode isn't much different from the remaining sports game in the first years of the console, with the face buttons controlling the basic aspects of the game, such as passing, lobbing or kicking (or different kind of lunges on defence). However, the game gains a new dimension in the 'arcade mode', where it's possible to bend the rules with infamous kicks to the head or unleash the trademark move of the series - the Predator Megakick, named after the then revolutionary boot models. However, doing those decrease the players' stamina meter, and after the bar is depleted, players not only no longer can make special moves, but also take longer to recover from a tackle, so longer games can be won (or lost) by the number of players that can't feel their legs no more.
